MISSION
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to empower girls to stay in school by educating them about their menstrual cycle and distributing eco-friendly sanitary napkins.
OUR STORY
We are international students attending Lincoln School in Kathmandu, Nepal. During the summer of 2016, our founding member Mackenzie (Grade 10) read an article about The Purple Box Project. She was inspired by the project's aim to provide free (disposable) sanitary pads to girls and young women in Tanzania who need but cannot afford pads. Mackenzie realized that access to menstrual hygiene products is a problem for girls in Nepal too. With inspiration from The Purple Box Project, Mackenzie and a group of her peers in Grade 10 created the student organization PLUM!
WHY
"PLUM"?
WHY "PLUM"?
Menstruation in English is commonly called "period". In Korean, it is referred to as "magic" (마법). Magic in Nepali is जादू,(Jādū). जादू (Jādū) is the same pronunciation of "plum" in Korean.
